Travel – Getting Around In Europe
Most students will get around using the local regional train and
bus system. The VRS and VRR public transportation system for both
Bonn and Düsseldorf respectively, are exceptionally efficient
and comfortable local transportation systems linked by a regional
network that extends the entire Rhine Ruhr Area.
For more extensive travel outside of the region students may find
flying relatively inexpensive. Low fare airlines have recently discovered
the European tourism market and often one can find a great deal.
While we do not advocate any one provider, nor can we list them
all, students have had some success with some of the following airlines
that can be reached easily in the Düsseldorf/Bonn/Cologne region:
- www.easyjet.com EasyJet has
service from Bonn/Cologne and Dortmund.
- www.germanwings.com Germanwings
has service from Bonn/Cologne.
- www.gexx.de Germania Express
has service from Bonn/Cologne and Düsseldorf.
- www.hlx.com Hapag Lloyd Express
has service from Bonn/Cologne.
- www.ryanair.com Ryanair has
service from Frankfurt/Hahn
Also check out the website of the German railway company (Deutsche
Bahn) at www.bahn.de. Besides offering
the EURail Pass, they usually also cooperate with our neighboring
countries on good ticket offers and show you all their train schedules
as well.
